A Star-Studded (Love) Affair: The Promises and the Bling — Ceremony Part IV

Well, folks, we’ve now come to my favorite part of our wedding ceremony: the promises and the bling. Since we both decided to write our own vows independently and not share them until the big day, the thing I was most looking forward to (even more than drinking wine and eating chocolate!) was hearing what Mr. Star had written as his marital promises

Finding My Center, One Piece at a Time: Almost Done!

So now that I had the beads and the votives , I needed to find me some vases. I put together a spreadsheet and figured out how many of each piece we’d need for each table. We decided to only put them on the tables in the main dining room, so there would be none for the booths or the patio, which put us at 15 tables

American Idol will continue without Simon Cowell

So there is indeed still hope for the universe to thrive! Even though Simon Cowell leaves now to pursue his own talent-show ambitions, American Idol will live on. This is what Robert Sillerman, CEO of CKX, the company that spawned 19 Entertainment, said about the future prospects of American Idol: “As talented as Cowell is…’Idol’s’ future with this long-term extension is guaranteed.” And now it’s all going to get even more interesting seeing as how they will have competition for the title of most awesomest talent-show ever

Gifts for the Girls

My bridesmaids pretty much rock the house. They put up with all my neurotic obsessions (shoes, table numbers, guest list, etc.) and calm me down whenever wedding anxiety strikes. They’re in the process of planning what is sure to be a crazy-fun bachelorette party and are also helping my aunt plan my shower

Singing in the Rain

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but we Angelenos are facing some uncharacteristically inclement weather this week. Luckily, I am prepared! In 2009, I think we totaled about three days of rain (two of which you could probably characterize as a drizzle), but I went ahead and ordered some rain boots on Zappos in the spring anyway since my campus practically flooded from it and ruined my favorite ballet flats. (By the way, I am still in mourning and trying to determine whether there is a cause of action against the designer of the parking structure for negligent infliction of emotional distress… no?).

Dress Flowers

Alright, time to experiment with dress flowers! The first attempt was from a book I have called Kokoro No Te , but it’s a little too pointy… The book example used a lighter fabric, and was only a few inches tall. This one is, well, nearly a foot and made with canvas! Next I went online to look at different DIY flowers, and walked away with a ton of tutorials: Rosette – (tutorial source) Fabric Flower – (tutorial source) Geisha Flower – (tutorial source) Fabric Rose – (tutorial source) Martha’s Silk Flower – (tutorial source) I went with the rosette for now, since it seemed like a good match for the bumpy skirt. Ta da! I did cheat a little though

Scratch That, Reverse It…

So, being engaged for 20 months gives you a ton of time to come up with ideas for your wedding. You collect your inspiration, do the research, sometimes you even buy the materials for projects… but you know what they say about the best laid plans. Now that we’re officially 10 weeks out (eeeeek!), it’s time to start cutting things that I know are not going to happen.
