Lucas Dawson – “Another Way To Say Goodbye”

It’s so rare that I get to do a post that fits on both Songs:Illinois and Swedesplease . I like to do them too because I can expose a worthy artist to both groups of readers. Lucas Dawson is certainly worthy.

Bomb The Music Industry – Get Warmer (For fans of Big D and the Kids Table, Arrogant Sons of Bitches, Mustard Plug)

Sometimes it really surprises me what I post on and don’t. I swear, I think that I post on an album, then I look through some older posts, and I completely skip some albums that I listen to all the damn time

Black Mountain – No Satisfaction

Stephen McBean and Amber Webber deliver grungy anthemic performances on today’s track No Satisfaction, from the Vancouver-based indie-rock collective Black Mountain’s self-titled 2005 release.  Generally regarded as a critical success (ironically, one of the few negative reviews comes from PopMatters, who critiqued the band for taking themselves too seriously), the album marks the…

The Steal – Split With Set Your Goals (For fans of Paint it Black, Kid Dynamite, Good Clean Fun)

I love The Steal. Besides being my favorite hardcore band from the UK, actually fuck that, they are one of my favorite bands in general. When they broke up, I was pretty bummed out, and even though I didn’t know any of the songs at the time, was fortunate enough to see them once (that’s how I heard of them). One good thing did come out of their breakup though, and that is they released all of

Elizabeth Fraser has returned to the music scene with the new single “Moses” which is her first solo release in many years. The former Cocteau Twins singer has recorded this song some time ago with Massive Attack’s drummer Damon Reece, and close friend Jake Drake-Brockma. You can download this single from her official website, or you can buy a vinyl version of it on Amazon, that site also sells the tracks as mp3 downloads.

Witch Hunt – Burning Bridges To Nowhere (For fans of F-Minus, Aus Rotten, Leftover Crack)

The whole female/male dual vocals found in crust punk is incredibly difficult to pull off. The general idea is to take the usually harsh dude’s vocals and have it melodically mix in with the (slightly) less harsh and dudette’s voice. The problem is too many bands simply switch vocal duties in a call/shout back manner rather then blending the voices, giving the band more of a B-52s vibe than

The Casualties – Die Hards (For fans of The Unseen, The Virus, The Boils)

Man, The Casualties get a lot of shit from the punk scene. I’ve heard complaints ranging from they just recycle riffs (Ramones anyone?) , they care too much about their hair (I’m not looking at them on CD buddy), their fans are all younger (we all start somewhere…listen, no one comes out of the womb blasting Crass) and that their lyrics tend to be stupid (ok..

Team Robespierre – Everything’s Perfect (For fans of Atom and His Package, Matt and Kim, Intro5pect)

Ever since the demise of Atom and His Package, there has been quite the rising of quirky as dancy synth driven music in punk. Sure, I guess you can argue it started with New Wave, but those were the 80s, and everyone was smoking crack then anyway.Just ask Nancy.Team Robespierre is the punk rock answer to Matt and Kim: catchy electronic dance music with a bit of a punk rock bite

Healthy Pancakes – Is that really possible?

Chocolate cake, muffins and two birthdays in one week, here at the TreatHer office we’ve been slightly over-indulging during the Valentine’s Day rush. (We did manage to nibble on a few carrots on Friday, if that’s any consolation.) Ok so it has nothing to do with gifts but it’s a new week and a new healthy start for us – she says munching on a banana. So we were wondering if it’s possible to resist temptation on Pancake Day

Off With Their Heads with Cloak/Dagger, Slow Death (Live in Asbury Park 2/12/10)

On Friday night, I took the 1 and a half hour drive out to punk rock bowling alley Asbury Lanes in my home state of New Jersey to catch one of my favorite sing a long bands, Off With Their Heads.Cloak/DaggerI arrived in the middle of these guys set, but the very little that I did see made me interested in checking out more by these Richmond hardcore dudes.

Ruder Than You – Creation Sounds (For fans of The Slackers, The Pietasters, The Toasters)

I hate to admit it, but these days, it’s getting really hard to find good ska. Over are the third wave ska hey days of the 90s, and ska bands seem to be dropping left and right or releasing sub-par albums (*cough* Fluent In Stroll *cough*) , and I’ve got to admit, it makes me gravitate away and not really want to check out any ska releases anymore.

Crucial Unit – These Colors Get The Runs (For fans of Municipal Waste, DRI, Bones Brigade)

When I went to see Hub City Stompers about 2 and a half weeks ago, they referenced a Crucial Unit song and the only thing running through my mind was “holy shit, I haven’t listened to those dudes in a while”. On the drive home, I popped in Crucial Unit’s “These Colors Get The Runs”, and had a complete thrash-fest for my entire ride from NJ to Killadelphia.Crucial Unit plays unconventional, tongue

Cockroach, Leaving, iPod Life-Affirmation

-picture from inventorspot.com For once the shuffle setting on my iPod wasn’t trying to kill me! It spewed out a great set of songs, Grapevine Fires by Deathcab for Cutie, Sorry Bunch by the Dresden Dolls followed by Chemo Limo by Regina Spektor and then Nothing But a Child by Steve Earle. Rock on!!! I want to say that I really really liked Cockroach by Rawi Hage .

Bones Brigade – Endless Bummer (For fans of Municipal Waste, LxExAxRxN, Crucial Unit)

Take a good long hard look at the cover of Bones Brigade’s “Endless Bummer”, that pretty much sums up how I feel as of late. Two weeks ago, I thought it was finally starting to get warmer, then Mother Nature goes and takes a huge, cold, white shit on us and something about some groundhog now sees his shadow and there’s supposed to be 6 more weeks of winter (what the fuck? I thought groundhogs
