Johnny Dowd – “Wake Up The Snakes”

It’s interesting and a somewhat sad commentary on music blogs that someone like Johnny Dowd , whose new record was released in March of this year, is nowhere to be found. While the regular cast of music bloggers that I like write about stuff that is under the radar, on the whole it seems like if you don’t issue multiple press releases with several different pr firms you’re not going to get any attention on the blogs.

Tift Merritt – “See You On The Moon” (Fantasy, June 1)

It’s been a couple of years since I wrote about Tift Merritt . And it’s been a couple years since her great record Another Country . I’m sure things have changed in her life, and there is a new producer (Tucker Martine) and apparently the world is spinning of its axes.

New (final) EP from Bark Hide and Horn

After I went through and deleted each and every email from the publicists, promoters, and myriad labels that pester me daily I was left with only one thing to post.

Sam Corbin Redux – Revisiting “Michigan’s Waltz”

Last week’s string of posts revisiting great records reviewed recently on Songs:Illinois was fun and I hope you liked it but I didn’t have room to write about Sam Corbin’s 2009 release Michigan Waltz . So this is the last in a series of posts encouraging you to seek out great records from Corin Raymond, Chris Coole, Matt The Electrician, and Adam Carrol with Michael O’Connor

Adam Carroll and Michael O’Connor Redux – Revisiting the Texas Record of the Year

I went a little overboard in my first post about this record back in January. But now with hindsight and many more listens I agree with everything I said in that post

Matt The Electrician Redux – Rivisiting “Animal Boy”

I’m liking this idea of revisiting unheralded but important records I have reviewed in the recent past (see earlier posts on Corin Raymond and Chris Coole ).

Corin Raymond Redux

I’ve been trying to convince and conjole people in the industry that Corin Raymond’s song “There Will Always Be A Small Time” is the best song about the travails of country music since “Crazy Heart” by Ryan Bingham.

Roy Davis – “We Are A Lightning Bolt”

I know I should be doing a SXSW preview, but this new music from Roy Davis is a pressing matter and it couldn’t wait. Roy Davis’ new record is called We Are A Lightning Bolt and came out back in January. I wrote about Roy Davis back in 2008 and thankfully Roy remembered and followed up with me.

Lucas Dawson – “Another Way To Say Goodbye”

It’s so rare that I get to do a post that fits on both Songs:Illinois and Swedesplease . I like to do them too because I can expose a worthy artist to both groups of readers. Lucas Dawson is certainly worthy.

Raina Rose – “When May Came” (February, Constant Clip Records)

This morning I almost wrote about new records by Matt Harlan and Zoe Muth & The Lost High Rollers but in both cases other blogs beat me to the punch and did a good job sharing their music ( here and here ). So instead I will mention the new record by Raina Rose called When May Came

Bob Cheevers – “Tall Texas Tales” (Feb. 14)

If you asked me what one of my favorite records of all time is you’d get kind of a strange answer. It would probably be this little record from Bob Cheevers called Gettysburg To Graceland .

Jon Jackson – “The Magnetic Fields covers”

I went a little bit off the deep end for the songs of Jon Jackson about two years ago. As a result I’m now a lifelong fan.

First song from Tim Barry’s “28th and Stonewall” (Suburban Home Records, January 26)

Tim Barry’s last record was arguably one of the best records of 2008/09. It’s simple honesty in both its music and lyrics made it a staple here at casa Songs:Illinois. I expect the same from the new record

The Idaho Falls – “The Spark”

No one (except Rawkblog ) is writing about the new Idaho Falls record. I don’t know if that will change in the next couple of days with a press release announcing the new album or if there will be a sudden change of heart wherein music bloggers start to look outside of their email inboxes and P4k’s “forkcast” for music recommendations

Adam Carroll and Michael O’Connor – “Hard Times”

I know that as a roots rock fan I should be bowing down to the alter of Ray Wylie Hubbard right about now. But I’d rather point out a record that tackles it’s subject with a relentless energy and one track mind and one that will no doubt be overshadowed by the new Ray Wylie Hubbard
