Wanna Play Paper Dolls?

Source My grandma used to buy me paper dolls – sometimes as a little gift for a holiday and sometimes just because. I loved playing with them, especially the more vintage-y dolls. I distinctly remember a Victorian set of dolls and a 1950s set

Now see here, I’m not going to tell you again all about my borderline-inappropriate feelings for that stationery Disneyland that is Paper Source . Not that I don’t want to wax poetic about my retail crush, but there simply isn’t enough time.

Wedding Question: When to Send Thanks?

A Sample Save the Date from Wedding Paper Divas!  I am getting married later this year, but we’re already getting some of the gifts we registered for! Should we send thank you notes now, or wait until after the wedding? Good question! First of all, thank YOU for writing thank you notes ! The “rule” is that you should send a thank you note as soon as you receive a gift . That way, there’s not a lot of time that passes between the gift giving and the thanks — which is very much appreciated by the gift givers! Plus, this will make it so much easier on you.

Gifts for the Girls

My bridesmaids pretty much rock the house. They put up with all my neurotic obsessions (shoes, table numbers, guest list, etc.) and calm me down whenever wedding anxiety strikes. They’re in the process of planning what is sure to be a crazy-fun bachelorette party and are also helping my aunt plan my shower

I spent two happy years living in Haiti as a small child and my family still has friends there today. It’s hard to imagine having been there in a time like this. If you’re one of the many glued to your television for the latest news and images of the terrible suffering in Haiti, I hope you’ll consider donating to one of the various organizations working on relief efforts

Just in Case…

… Burger ever forgets his name… I’ve become obsessed with buying him things with his initials all over them. I guess it started when we decided to get engraved cufflinks for the groomsmen , and I snuck in a pair for Burger in the order: Then, while on my Surgical Oncology rotation, I noticed one of the well-dressed attending physicians had a monogrammed dress shirt

Top 11 Gifts for a Newly Engaged Bride or Groom

I recently received an email from Get Married that I wanted to share with you as we’re now in the middle of the most popular time for wedding engagements (35-40% of couples get engaged between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day) . Get Married offers consumers the top eleven gifts for newly-engaged brides (or grooms-to-be). For budget-conscious shoppers, giving a combined holiday-engagement gift is a great and practical way to celebrate the season.

Gifts from the Women’s Peace Collection

In regions around the world torn by conflict, war and poverty, women are often the hardest hit. When the men in their families disappear or are lost, they are suddenly left not only to raise their families, but to support them. And worse, educational opportunities are often limited.

Our Rainy-Day Wedding: Da Bride

While the Dude was striking a pose, I was getting some solo shots with Jennifer (one of the benefits to hiring a husband/wife team to shoot your wedding!). We started off on the lower balcony of the mansion. Finally, my bouquet makes an appearance! If you look closely, you can see my great-grandmother’s ring in this shot.

Step into the Time Machine

I usually start thinking about Christmas gifts months early (yes, this girl with the Jewish and Muslim families gives gifts on Christmas), and the Ghost of Christmas Past visited me this morning and reminded me of a funny story from Christmas two years ago (pre-engagement, of course). Now, Mr. Spaniel and I have a pretty egalitarian relationship, and I didn’t feel that the decision to get engaged was one that should be made unilaterally—I didn’t want the secret ring-buying and surprise proposal; it’s not my scene

Bridal Jackpot

I’ve learned that it’s the little things in wedding planning that can make you the happiest. Like stumbling upon the name of a new favorite flower that you never knew existed prior to wedding planning, but that you’ve seen everywhere (ranunculus). Or getting a sorry we missed you slip from the UPS guy that means that your long-awaited insert item here has finally arrived! Well, this weekend Bridesmaid Kim (we haven’t come up with a cute Weddingbee name yet) came in town and I felt like I’d hit the bridal jackpot.

Two Rings, Part Two: the Proposal (Not the Movie)

As I mentioned in a previous post , it is hard to keep a secret in our house. This is because our favorite thing to do with surprises – even small ones – is to come up with obscure, tangentially related hints, then see if the other person can guess what it is

Gifts for the Guys

Another thing Mr. Burger and I took care of recently was gifts for our bridal party! I’m going to hold off writing about the gifts for the girls for now, so we’ll all just have to settle for a post on groomsmen’s gifts! We went shopping with the objective of finding ties for the guys (you see, they will be wearing tuxes, but no vests or ties from the shop – just regular old neckties)

Bridesmaid Gifts, Part II: A Pretty Package

Yesterday, a UPS package was waiting for me on my desk chair. I was expecting a shipment of eyelets for our programs (a story for another post!) and some gold pens for other projects. But the box was kind of on the large size for pens or eyelets, so with great curiosity I opened it.

Bridesmaid Gifts, Part I: Quality or Quantity?

All in all, I think I have tried pretty hard to be as considerate of my bridesmaids as possible. I set a price cap (for myself) on how much the dresses would cost (anything over $200 and I’d foot the difference—which made the urgency of an affordable dress much more… URGENT!), and I paid the surcharge on the plus size dresses (for my decidedly NON-plus size bridesmaids… darn you, bridal industry sizing!) without telling anyone. I picked a dress that I hope will be re-wearable (I would wear it), but if not, at least it’s pretty
